Located in the Warehouse District, the Sidecar is offering our guests happy hour rates through 7:30pm including $5 frozen margaritas, $7 glasses of wine selection, and half off “Shucker’s Selection” of raw oysters til 6pm. Join us at our April 8th Coffee & Conversation networking event, at the beautiful Cafe du Monde location at City Park!
9:00am ‘til 10:00am, we’ll have special guests with us, including 6 international public health professionals, in town to learn about “Global Public Health Challenges” as part of their IVLP exchange project - these visitors are from the Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Mexico, Panama, Paraguay, and Peru.

St. Joseph's Day Altar and Feast
Global New Orleans hosted a very special dinner to celebrate St. Joseph in the home of our Executive Director, Laila Bondi. Dinner will be al fresco (weather permitting) and will include a meal, dessert, and wine, plus the ubiquitous goodie bag with cookies, a fava bean and some Global New Orleans swag.
A part of the diverse cultural history of New Orleans, the French Quarter was once referred to as Little Palermo - its many Sicilian immigrants brought the tradition of the Saint Joseph’s altar, which is much-loved and celebrated by many in South Louisiana, not exclusively Sicilians.
The story goes that during the Middle Ages, Sicily was affected by a terrible drought and famine: many people died of starvation and Sicilians started praying to St. Joseph to bring rain, promising to celebrate his day with an altar filled with special foods, flowers, and devotional objects to give thanks. The rains came, and so the offerings became an annual tradition.
Today, we celebrate St. Joseph’s day with an altar featuring breads in an assortment of shapes, fava beans, lemons and more. Since St. Joseph’s Day falls during Lent, no meat is served, but instead the star is pasta con le sarde (pasta with sardines, pine nuts, raisins and fennel) a bevy of fried vegetables, and the many sweets; cuccidati, sfinge, and pignolati.

Carnival has once again come to an end, and we know that means many of us will be forgoing our typical cocktails for lent. So please join us on February 22nd from 5:30pm- 7:30pm for a little healthy body and mind boost at our Lenten Dry Happy Hour at New Orlean’s premier non-alcoholic community wellness space, Dream House Lounge! Located in the CBD, Dream House Lounge boasts an array of NA “conscious cocktails” (including 20% off certain drinks during happy hour), event spaces, apothecary and NA bottle shop, as well as community wellness events. In the aftermath of mardi gras celebrations, we can’t wait to connect, network, and engage in exchanges with our community and partners in this time of reflection and self care. Save the date and come enjoy the cleanse with us!

Join us at the return of our Coffee & Conversation networking series - with a special Carnival twist!
Enjoy cafe au laits and a spread of local King Cakes on Friday, January 26th at our Coffee & King Cake event - held from 9:00am ‘til 10:00am at Cafe du Monde in City Park. We’ll have special guests with us, including 6 international visitors traveling through New Orleans under the auspices of the U.S. Department of State’s International Visitor Leadership Program, in town to learn about “Preserving Cultural Heritage and Combating Trafficking of Conflict Antiquities” as part of their exchange project - these visitors are from Egypt, Jordan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Tunisia.

Feel free to share your favorite King Cake options with us as we consider which King Cakes we’ll be bringing in (please note that King Cake options we provide will be based on deliciousness but also based on AVAILABILITY).
SEPTEMBER NETWORKING HAPPY HOUR
We had such a successful event in August, we decided to have another event in September! Come out for our Networking Happy Hour at the Rabbit Hole on 9/28 from 5:30pm-7:30pm! We will have exciting guests in the house, with TWO IVLP groups in town; one group focusing on Women in Entrepreneurship (Chad) and the other group focusing on US Foreign Policy (multiple European countries). We are also co-hosting this event with our partner, Home is Here, which is a grassroots nonprofit organization with a mission to cultivate community-based systems of support with newly arrived immigrants in the Gulf South. Home is Here builds community alongside asylum-seekers who arrive to the U.S. alone, are transferred to Louisiana detention centers, and are ineligible for government-funded social services.
Happy Hour at Urban South Brewery
Join us for our August Networking Happy Hour at Urban South Brewery on 8/31 from 5:30pm-7:30pm! Connect with members of our citizen diplomacy network, including local organizational partners, while enjoying some tasty hyper-local libations like Urban South and Juvenile’s own “Juvie Juice”. We’ll have some tables reserved and Happy Hour prices will generously be extended through our event for attendees! Can’t wait to see you all and beat the summer heat over a beverage together!
Coffee & Conversation at Old Road Coffee
Join us for Coffee & Conversation on 8/15 from 9:30 AM - 10:30 AM at Tremé’s own Old Road Coffee, as we welcome five IVLP delegates from Egypt, who will be in New Orleans to engage in exchange around renewable energy development with experts in Louisiana! If there’s one thing that’s repeatedly affirmed for us it’s that exchange matters, and we hope you’ll take this opportunity to come share your ideas, some New Orleans hospitality, and a little caffeinated pick-me-up with these accomplished visitors and some of our local partners.
June Happy Hour
To kick off the season, we are hosting a Global New Orleans Happy Hour on June 28th. We have a very special guest, Tom Rathburn, Branch Chief of the Office of International Visitors (OIV), which administers the International Visitor Leadership Program.
We have reserved the VIP area, which is the structure behind the patio on the beer garden side. Please feel free to visit any of the bars to purchase drinks and enjoy happy hour prices. Snacks provided by us!
