St. Joseph's Day Dinner and Altar

Global New Orleans invites you to an exclusive dinner event, celebrating St. Joseph's Day in the home of our Executive Director, Laila Bondi! Dinner will be al fresco (weather permitting) and will include a meal, dessert, and wine, plus cookies, lucky fava beans, and lagniappe.

A defining part of New Orleans’ layered history, the French Quarter was once known as "Little Palermo," reflecting its vibrant Sicilian immigrant community. Among the traditions they brought was the creation of elaborate St. Joseph’s altars, a practice that flourished in South Louisiana and became a cherished celebration embraced by many beyond its Sicilian roots.

Today, we celebrate St. Joseph’s day with an altar featuring breads in extravagant shapes, fava beans, lemons and much more. Laila's mother will be preparing the dinner using time-honored family recipes. As St. Joseph’s Day falls during Lent, this meal is senza carne (without meat), and instead the star is pasta con le sarde (pasta with sardines, pine nuts, raisins and fennel), various fried vegetables, and cuccidati (Italian fig cookies).

Only 30 seats are available - purchase your ticket today to reserve your spot!
