Aliya Quinlan
International Visitor Program Coordinator
aliya@globalneworleans.org
Aliya joined Global New Orleans after working for a decade in the local non-profit mental health sector, first as the Child Development Specialist at a residential substance abuse treatment facility for mothers. She then became a Vocational Specialist on an Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) team, serving people with severe mental illnesses. Raised in the Washington D.C. area by a multi-national family, Aliya was taught that above all else she is a global citizen and developed a passion for exploring global cultures. This passion blossomed as Aliya started her undergraduate degree in the cultural melting pot that is New York City, where she attended The New School University. After leaving New York Aliya was able to realize her goal of immersive international travel while spending time in various parts of Southeast Asia, Europe, and Central America. Aliya comes to Global New Orleans with an intimate understanding of local non-profits and grassroots organizations who work to help underserved populations and stimulate local growth and development through community engagement and sustainable practices. When Aliya is not in the office she can be found walking her pitbull Chaplin around Bayou St. John, creating costumes for various local festivals, or dancing with local non-profit Dancing Grounds’ hip hop performance group “The Squad”.
