Meeting with Chief Chaisson of the United Houma Nation
Chief Lora Ann Chaisson will discuss the devastating impact of coastal land loss and the particular significance of tribal land loss. She will discuss the trend of increasingly strong hurricanes and other weather patterns, and how the Nation is working to ensure a new generation of leaders to address these concerns.

The Urban Conservancy

Participants met with the Urban Conservancy, whose work is dedicated to research, education and advocacy that promotes the wise stewardship of the urban built environment. UC staff will take a group on a short walking tour of a New Orleans neighborhood that has utilized the Front Yard Initiative, a UC program designed to help residents remove excessive pavement on their property, install rains gardens and permeable pavers to improve water management issues
St Tammany Parish Mosquito Abatement District

The mission of this organization is to protect the health and quality of life of the residents of St. Tammany Parish by minimizing the risk of mosquito-transmitted diseases and managing nuisance mosquitoes to a tolerable level. They achieve this mission by sensitively monitoring mosquito abundance or indicators of mosquito-transmitted diseases and controlling larval and adult mosquitoes with environmental modification or the selective use of public health pesticides. The parish envisions a community where residents and visitors enjoy outdoor activities with minimal annoyance from mosquitoes and the risk of diseases they can transmit.
Historic New Orleans Collection (Vanishing Bounty: Louisiana’s Coastal Environment and Culture )
Visit the Historic New Orleans Collection to see their new exhibit “A Vanishing Bounty: Louisiana's Coastal Environment and Culture.” The HNOC is a 15-minute walk from the hotel. It will provide a historical context to what participants have learned about Louisiana’s environment during the tour.
